… A cool space with a collection of different pens and pencils, an assortment of brushes, pots of things, inks, loads of surfaces to draw on, various types of paint, knives and screwdrivers and canvases and easels, places to make a bit of a mess without it being a problem, odd utensils, many colours, other stuff.
A cool space like that… with people who know how to use them from experience and want you to turn materials and skills into something you are proud of.
What you will do.
You will be at art school from 9:00 – 3:30pm with a 45 min lunch and two 15 min snack breaks.
You will do short making activities involving the following:
Painting (acrylic, water colour, oils)
Drawing (pen, pencil, charcoal, chalks)
Printing (block printing, sublimation printing, Transfer)
Fashion design (pattern design, colour, garment design)
Illustration (mixed media)
Graphic design (typography, photoshop, poster design)
How to critique art (concepts, vocabulary, reflection)
Then you will choose the bits you enjoyed most to practice and improve your technique and understanding of how they work. From what you make you will discover you have made works of art to go into a curated (we’ll teach you about that as well) public exhibition that you can invite friends, family, teachers, neighbors or strangers to. It will be a great exhibition with a catalogue you keep to remember your first public Art Exhibition.
This is good because:
You will do things you have never done before. These things may not become part of your everyday life but they will give you a better appreciation of the creative world you encounter be it art, music, dance, fashion and all the rest… too many to mention. You will then exhibit as an artist in your first public Art Show.
There is (nearly) always a catch.
We will ask you to work hard and make mistakes and then keep working with the same enthusiasm. At times this will be difficult. It is the same for every artist or person who has an ability or skill that you have admired. We will ask you to talk about your work then accept and respond to the ideas of others. This can be even more difficult… but even more rewarding. Our motto is “create something new” and that is exactly what we will do.
